If you are having difficulty deciding whether the AeroGarden, or Power Plant Pro is right for you...we hope the following information will help you in making your decision.
The first thing you should do is determine how much space you have in your home. The AeroGardens are quite large, and can take up a good chunk of counter space. The Prepara Power Plant Pro, packs just as much productivity as the 6-pod AeroGardens, but in much less space. If space is not an issue, and you want to grow full size tomatoes and things of that sort with your AeroGarden, then you will need the Pro200 or Elite 6 Plus AeroGarden.
Consider the type of technology used to grow the plants in the system. A true aeroponic and hydroponic system (where the roots are suspended in the air and sprayed with a nutrient solution) will be more effective and produce better garden yields more quickly. The Power Plant Professional (a fabulous AeroGarden alternative) utilizes a true hydroponic and aeroponic system, which is why the plants will grow faster than the AeroGarden as seen in this AeroGarden comparison video. The majority of the new AeroGardens do not use a true aeroponic and hydroponic system, but use what we call 'bubble-ponics'. The roots of the plant are constantly submersed in the water, and fed oxygen with a air bubbler. This method is less effective and results in a weaker developed roots system and slower growth - which also leads to greater instances of 'transplant shock' (problems when transplanting outdoors).
Consider the long term cost of your purchase. The AeroGardens can become very, very expensive over time. Each new seed kit is a minimum of $20, new lights (which should be replaced every 6 months) are another $20, and if you want to grow your own seeds, you can expect to spend up to $40 for the AeroGarden Master Gardener Kit. The Prepara Power Plant comes with an extra set of grow sponges, and allows you to grow your own seeds right from the start - no need to purchase pre-seeded and overpriced seed kits.
